Build

Hercules v1.0

by kurt1011

Description

This build was intended for gaming as its main priority. This was my first full build of a computer for myself. The Corsair 460x is a very compact case so take that into mind if you are thinking of getting this case (get low profile ram) I have tested some games and have came to the conclusion that this build is overkill for 1080p and amazing at 1440p. The i7-7700K is a crazy awesome cpu, no stuttering just smooth game play, I cant wait to try out premiere pro. The GTX 1080 is a powerful card just playing any game without a sweat. No problems so far besides my hard drive was corrupt or had an issue, after doing a clean install the computer runs without any issues.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Hard to fit in a compact case, make sure to put it in last.

Motherboard

Lovely looking color and carbon fiber is nice. Performance and overclocking is easy and understandable.

Storage

20-40 second start up in my system

Video Card

Beast that created my Hercules

Operating System

Meh is the newest Windows 10, better then 8.1. My favorite will always be Windows 7.

Case Fan

Can have up to six on one controller, amazing!

Monitor

Color, response time, and clarity. For 1080p and gaming its got what you need.

Keyboard

Great for gaming but lacks all the colors of other keyboards.

Mouse

For a wireless mouse this would be the one to buy but it does have some delay if you do not use usb 3.0

Headphones

Great headphones but they are not very strong. I have dropped mine just from my desk and the mic had detached, but the price is nice for the quality of sound.

Speakers

Loud bass, surround sound, and beautiful quality

Very nice. Check your local best buy for the dell s2716dgr monitor. They currenty have it on sale for $479. It's a 1440p 144hz g-sync monitor that will really take full advantage of the gtx1080. The black and green looks great.

CallOfSnowGolem 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

So you say it's v1.0 what are your future upgrades

kurt1011 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

a second gtx 1080 thats about it for future for right now

Preminence 2 points 20 months ago

The #1 upgrade you should focus on is a better monitor, no point in having SLI GTX 1080 if one 1080 pumps out 144+fps at 1080p on most games. You'll really know the difference if you get a 1440p 144hz monitor.

kurt1011 submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

I wish I had room for two monitors but I have a 4k tv in the way. I have a very small room

CallOfSnowGolem 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

Dang don't you think that's a little over kill

kurt1011 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

It will be a while until a second gtx 1080 is needed. By then probably will be a better single GPU anyways lol, thats the life of gpu's for you.

I love your build, but I won't deny I was a little disappointed to not see this alluded to for good measure. ;)

In response to the comment thread above, who the heck cares? If you want that second 1080, you have the money for the 1080, you get that second 1080... That being said, if you were planning on a second card, I would gone with crystal 560x because as you said, space is a little compact. The second card might find itself a little starved for air. Great build though +1.

kurt1011 submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

Thank you, I do think that the case is a little small but I can always get a different case when I get a second 1080. People worry too much about money, if you never spend it then how will you ever have fun? I saved up extra cash for six months for this computer build and it was totally worth it.

Having 6 fans did you use a splitter for them? If so which ones? And how did you control them (assuming youre going for slight positive pressure) considering they are not pwm? Have the same case and am looking to put another 3 fans in :) Sick build though man!!

kurt1011 submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

I have them plugged into a Intuitive 3-button RGB LED controller that comes with the fan. It holds up to six.

the_agenda 1 point 19 months ago

I have the, i meant for powering it, the RGB controller only does LEDs right?

kurt1011 submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

yes, you can control the fans from bios usually or from a software. You can buy a controller for the fans like a touch screen one for like 20 bucks. I had one in old build.

gooseham 1 point 19 months ago

hey how was installing the aio? i want the exact one

kurt1011 submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

Not fun with the compact build, needed to get low profile ram and I was a dummy and didn't plug my cpu pin connector from psu in first and had to take the aio out and put it back in lol.

kurt1011 submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

Well guys, looks like I am getting a gtx 1080ti. Hercules v1.5 soon to come :)

kurt1011 submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

Evga step up plan is why, will be a good upgrade for the money

WowNoRGB 1 point 19 months ago

How was setting up the aio with the small headroom?

kurt1011 submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

What do you mean by aio?

WowNoRGB 1 point 19 months ago

The all in one cooler, fitting the radiator on top with fans Did the ram cause any issue for installing

kurt1011 submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

you need to get low profile ram

kurt1011 submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

I was going to get some G.Skill rgb ram that I found on newegg but I found out that this cooler does not fit or will basically hit your ram if it isnt lowprofile.

kurt1011 submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

Now, you could look into the corsair 570x and see if it is a little bigger, but if you are about compact design, the 480x is nice . While the 570x has a similar design, if you want a mid size tower that wont be huge then the 480x will work. I noticed though that you will need to plug in the cpu connector from psu before putting in the radiator because you cant once it is installed.

plzDonateAgame 1 point 18 months ago

Well someone's rich XD

plzDonateAgame 1 point 18 months ago

The monitor is HELLA overpriced but AMAZING build otherwise.

plzDonateAgame 1 point 18 months ago

Go for a 144hz monitor. The Acer gn276hl to be exact.

XxBatman99xX 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

Not only a GTX 1080, but an EVGA GTX 1080 FTW for 1080p 60hz gaming? Are you actually kidding me?

Me too! My friends do not think the same, but after having blue for two years with previous computers I was ready for a change.
