This is my first build and I'm thus far fairly happy with it. I upgraded from an aging Dell XPS 410 that I ran out of ways to replace parts on.
CPU This is what really was how everything got rolling. Newegg price matched a Frys deal for me and I couldn't say no. For the price, I was hard pressed to find something comparable. I've no preference on Intel or AMD, so the sale was the reason I went with it. So far it's working fantastically. I did a lot of research and waited for sales. I believe I did at least a mediocre job.
CPU Cooler This got great reviews and everyone seems to love it. I hated installing it, I thought I was about to break something based on how difficult it was to get it screwed to the mobo. Looks good and cools great, though.
Thermal Compound Did the job, nothing more to say about it.
Motherboard I waited so long for this to come down in price and I eventually just gave up and bought it. Looks awesome, works great, has an on board power button so testing out of case was simple. The sticker on the ASUS logo isn't staying stuck down, though, but the wind tunnel that is my case likely doesn't help.
Memory Bought on sale, good size. I'd like to get more in the future. I wasn't so sure about the red in the case, but I like it now that it's all together.
Storage Both were on sale. Pretty pleased with the space I have - only had 500GB in my old PC. There's so much room for things!
Video Card This is temporary. It fit in my old PC when the GPU in it crapped out and started this build. I'm holding out for the 970 FTW 4gb to come down in price and then I'll swap this out and make a Netflix box with it. That said, I'm still pleased with the card. I can run Skyrim on Ultra, but I really just play Borderlands 2 and the Presequel. I'd like to pick up Witcher 3, but I think I'll be alright waiting for the 970.
Case I cannot say enough good things about this case, I adore it. Great amount of space for cables 'round the back, easy to remove side panels, door covering the Optical Drive bay, removable expansion slot bays and an insane amount of space for fans and airflow. Three speed fan control on the top.
PSU Awesome amount of wattage, great cables. Fit nicely and is fairly quiet.
Optical Drive Does the job.
OS Not too fond of this, honestly. It'll take some getting used to.
Wireless Network Adapter Makes dat internet work.
Case Fans I wanted them to match the preinstalled fans so I stuck with NZXT. I bought two too many 140s, so there's that. Push pull in the top with two 140s, angled 120 pushing at the gpu and cpu, 120 on the bottom pushing as well. The rear 120 pulls and the front 200 pushes. All in all it keeps it quite cool.
