Description

Built this back in September to replace my Playstation Plus subscription, and consoles all together.

Wasn't quite sure what I was doing when it came to performance vs price but I was definitely a man on a budget. Overall I'm happy with the way everything turned out cosmetically. Performance wise, it has some issues.

I generally don't play anything too graphically intensive now a days, (counter-strike, rocket-league, and some indie titles). Recently Rise of Tomb Raider was on sale, and being a fan of the first couple titles, I had to pick it up. Well ROT is good and great hovering around 60 FPS when its just me, Lara, and some tree's around. When we're in town the frames go all over the place, sometimes as low as 35 fps.

Granted, I have all the graphic settings turned all the way up, but v-sync is turned off and its a 1080 for crying out loud. I'm thinking my next move might be to overclock the Ryzen 5. Unfortunately the ASRock AB250M does not make overclocking easy. I basically have to set all the fields myself and pray to god the thing doesn't blow up.

Does anyone here have any experience overclocking on this cheap board?

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Great to look at and keeps temps low. Granted there isn't an overclock on my CPU at the moment. RAM clearance may be an issue for Micro ATX boards however you can slide the fan up. Installation was a breeze. I saw some people complain about the tiny wrench they include however it posed no issue for me.

Motherboard

Its fine for what it is. BIOS is kind of blah.

Video Card

First card whined a bit, RMA'd for another card. That one whined too. I've learned to live with it given the fact that my case is pretty much completely open and I play with headphones for the most part.

Case

I scratched the clear panel so that is kind of a bummer. Wish Thermaltake offered a glass door, even if it was aftermarket. Cable management is a bit tricky, or at-least was for a first timer like me. After spending a good 35 minutes I like the end result.

Case Fan

They look really nice! Just be ready to tuck about 1 foot of cable per fan somewhere.

I have no idea how your frames are that bad with a gtx 1080 ftw with a 1600 and 16gb of ram you should be killing that game np

Your coil whine may have to do with your PSU. If you have another one laying around try it then maybe the coil whine'll stop.

Are you sure all your drivers are properly installed? Is your monitor plugged into the GPU and not the motherboard? There are a few things that could be the reason your performance is too low. If you still need help, message me on Discord (PyroZylo#1649), maybe we can figure it out.
