This is the render slave "Megatron" to my main workstation "Optimus". Currently working on building "Bumblebee" to join the battle :-)
Everyone is like "Oh my gosh awesome computer" , but we are forgetting the REAL MVP here, the shelf that is holding that beast of a PC. I applaud your hard work Shelf. Hang in there buddy.
Haha thanks man. The whole thing made me nervous but it seems to be holding up pretty well.
even steve jobs approves of these windows beasts
Somebody needs to wipe the drool off Steve Jobs chin...
"This is the render slave"
If this is a slave, then what is the master ._.
tpb1908 hit the nail on the head. Other than rendering 4-5 times faster, the slave is also meant to relieve my main comp so I can still work. It's pretty agonizing not being able to use the comp for hours at a time haha.
My main rig is a 3930k, rampage iv extreme, 2 x gtx 980 SLI, 32gb ram, 2 x 256 ssd, 2 tb WD data CM v8 cooler, and CM 1000w silent pro gold. Storm Stryker case
CM cases rock, use many of them in my Workstation builds.
I always wanted to buy transparent side window for that case. But in the last minute I didn't go for it. How much did it cost you?
Greatly done, keep it up. Steve's picture is priceless.
I currently work and live and Brazil, so the cost is twice as much of what you'd pay there. But it was around 200 bucks for this window. A bit expensive but no regrets at all.
I got lucky and found a guy out here that makes these windows. I browsed around the internet and just realized how uncommon it is haha
screw them, build a cluster.
awesome, bet this thing does work
Yea man, it renders about 4-5 times faster than my previous setup!
Now you just need to cool both Xeons with Liquid Nitrogen and then lets see that puppy preform. "sinister laughing while plotting something insane, like OC at -125 degrees C".
Holy helll man, your definitely getting done what you need to in a zip.
It increased my render times in Vray by about 4-5 times. Really happy about that :-)
If it's a slave to your main workstation, then why a expensive GPU?
Good point, but I had it in my main workstation, and ended up switching it out for 2 x gtx 980s to get better CUDA core performance. If I didn't have it left over, I definitely would have gotten something less.
Possibly for PhysX or the cuda cores. Idk tho haha
I have to ask because no one else has yet...what's with Jobs up there?
I admire his work ethic and philosophy. Kind of nice to have it up there to remind me of the "big picture" once in a while
Steve Jobs secretly a Windows Spy?
I'm loving the transformer theme! It's a very noticeable transition from the single monitor you had before. I'm in love with the entire rig..... +1
Thanks! Yea it's crazy looking back at those pictures of my first rig haha
How did you do the transformers emblems? - i'm a big fan and they look awesome! props
Thanks man! I got it on amazon. 10 bucks each! I spliced it into a molex splitter
I was GOING to say, how this is probably modeled off of Barnacules Nerdgasm's "William" machine, except his has dual 6 core processors..not dual 12 cores..holy..
Very nice build, and setup.
Thanks man! Watched that video before I built this one. Definitely helped guide me
Did you get a hernia lifting that monster up onto that shelf?
It was a terrifying experience haha
You ever scared that these things will turn into big ole robots out of no where ??? Cause i am.
I'm actually more scared of the shelf collapsing haha. Putting another support in tomorrow
Jeez, what do you do for a living?
I'm a 3d artist
So I took a look at Marksman's first build and it is a $2,400 X79 build but he stole the GTX 780 reference card from it for this slave build. So my question to Marksman is what GPU do you now have in your main machine?
Do you publish any of your work?
Haha nice catch man. I put 2 x gtx 980s in my main rig for the CUDA cores.
You are killing me !!
Can I come over ??
Wow !!! +1,00,000
I've yet to see an acrylic Cosmos 2 door mod with the exact oem honeycomb detail like yours has. Could you kindly share any info on how I could obtain such a fine piece of acrylic goodness for my Cosmos 2 build??
I lucked out and found a guy making them on the internet haha. I'm in Brazil though
Haha. Guess I will ask around on some forums then. Thanks...
Your GTX 780 - was that the $1099.99 on Amazon?
How does one get USB 3.1 - for the external storage etc? (I like at least 10 USB ports <grin>
It was actually around 750 when I got it 2 years ago. I put 2 x 980s in my main rig and used the left of 780 for the node.
OK sounds great.
I'm looking at this - as my primary rig and the 2x980 <excellent ratings on Amazon> same as you use.
Question - the MOBO has no USB 3.1 listed in the specs - any suggestion for USB card(s) that may fit?
This is so ******* satisfying
How are you liking the mobo? I'm thinking of using the D16 version in my next build.
Still a work in progress (few things are just placeholders for now).
Very nice build. Is there anything you would think of changing now that you've build it?
It's great man. Everything installed and worked much easier than I had expected. I'm not familiar with the d16 so I can't give my opinion on it. All I know is that this build works, really well.
BTW, your ram and case are not compatible with the mobo. You need Registered ECC memory, like the one I have in my build.
Are you sure you must have Registered ECC? I know sometimes you can use non-ECC memory on some server motherboards. I know they say it needs Registered ECC, but kinda hoping it's not a requirement.
If it absolutely cannot work with non-ECC, I guess I'll swap to ECC.
Do you so happen to have some non-ECC sticks you could test it with? I'd greatly appreciate it.
I'm almost positive you need Registered ECC. I'd love to help you out man, but everything is working well and stable and I don't want to tamper with it haha
Alrighty then, I'll swap my memory over to that then. Yeah, no reason to tear your build apart again. Thanks for the help!
Good luck man!
I was going to ask the same question-- I'm thinking of building this mobo with 2x E5-2640v2's (can't afford the big boy CPUs like y'all have haha). "Megatron" is basically my next build on mad steroids-- wish I could go as big as you did! Great work.
Angerthosenear - I was also hoping to get the NZXT H630 (but in black) but it is listed as incompatible. Do you know if the stock H630 can accommodate this mobo?
Edit BTW, according to Newegg this mobo supports both ECC and non-ECC unbuffered RAM. Can't say I know for a fact it's correct, just letting ya know what Newegg says. Thanks.
Sorry for the slow reply.
Technically the H630 would NOT fit the mobo - but only due to one thing. Standoff positions. It's the same size as an E-ATX motherboard. Just need to drill/tap some holes and you are good to go.
I'm now eyeing that new In-Win 909 case.... so pretty.
+1 For totally not creating an overkill build worth more than $7500.....
Nah, but seriously...holy crap! Great build man!
Haha thanks man!
" I put 2 x 980s in my main rig" very nice. They look far more reliable that Titan-X IMHO.
What MOBO do you have in your main rig - the same or X99?
Thanks man! I have an Asus Rampage iv Extreme.
Thanks for the info Marksman.
Asus Rampage iv Extreme - Another great choice. It has decent Amazon ratings of 40/5 (40-five star to five-1star. If more than 10% one stars - then it is a problem to me).
Why the dual CPU route this time - only two ratings this far? The leading edge can become the BLeeding edge.
If you could redo everything - would you go the Rampage route MOBO?
I'm attempting to once again to assemble another dream machine for Win 10 this time (no budget limit except to stay in touch with sanity of some kind).
The primary goal is reliability and high speed along with 4K monitors - to be used mainly for video and photo editing. Gaming a distant 3rd. This is one reason that I like this build - no liquid cooling.
New faster CPU's are to be released by Intel in June - using far less power and who knows what else. It is great that Intel CPU's have a very low failure rate. The Titan-X and Z GPU's besides speed have relatively few ratings bordering uncomfortable. Again I like your GTX 980 as a far more proven product.
Thanks for posting.
Congrats on making it onto the top ten most expensive builds on this site.
I'm sorry I just gotta ask... how did you get the emblem? Like the Decepticon.... I wanna know!
Amazon! They were like 10 bucks each haha
You paid $790 for a GTX 780!!!!!! ! ! ! ! !
I bought it when it first came out like a year and a half ago haha. Was originally in my other build, and was replaced by 2 x 980s
Awesome, someone finally made a build with that motherboard and posted it here. Looks great.
So, got to ask as it's been bugging me: How's the clearance between the CPU heatsinks and those (MOFSET?) golden heatsinks? Any chance you have a picture of it and maybe a measurement of the clearance? Even just a "there was some good clearance when I assembled it"... Been looking for that info but ASUS doesn't mention it anywhere...
Sorry for the late reply. Everything went together without any hassle whatsoever. Not even a bit of worry about clearance for me while building.
Just what I wanted to hear.
Thanks for the info!
Who did the window because this case deserves a window in general
This is really Sick man lovin it! Also quick question I saw those decepticon and autobot plates on the front of your monsters do you know where I could find those or were they custom made. Currently in the process of building a PC concept car look and design to my next build and I thought that would be a nice touch to drive it home.
Hey man! Thanks a lot. They were like 10 bucks each on amazon haha. here you go! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0086YM1L8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00
let me know if you need any advice. Peace!
What kind of rendering do you do? As in commercial, personal, etc?
I have no time for personal stuff haha. I do mostly commercial stuff, but usually smaller images like 4-5k at 300 dpi.
Cool. With beefy computers like these, I love to see their full potential being used.
Damn **** Holy **** that's like everyone's dream
I want to ask about the transparent side panel.
stuff it in a mod or buy?
if you buy where to buy it?
if the mod if I can buy the item?
I got it from a local guy out here in Brazil.
Man... if only you'd waited for the 980 TI to come out. Dual up 2 of those bad boys and you're set for the next 10 years.
I only use this machine as a render slave, which only uses the CPU. My main rig has 2 x 980s. 980tis would be nice though.
True. That would be awesome.
It deserves many more hundred votes.
Sometimes I wonder what members think before they vote? Jealous?
haha :-) Thanks man
u should had the two cpus wced u'r putting 240 watt of heat on the 2 cpu
The Noctuas keep them pretty cool. Haven't had any problems with overheating, and I push them VERY HARD.
Why not use GPU rendering instead? More effecient and much much faster.
For realtime rendering perhaps, but for final production rendering CPU is the way to go.
Why? better quality? I have no expertise in this field.
I'd really like to know what kind of workload this machine is needed for...
It's a 3d render slave
May I ask which kind of work are you rendering? Is it on 24/7?
I'm just not familiar with these things and I'd like to understand that kind of workload more, thanks!
3D renderings. It's on maybe 6-7 hours at a time, but it can handle way more :-)
can it play minesweeper @ 144p?
May I know wut u use to hold those 27 inch monitors?
why do you have a picture of Jobs above your windows PC
Because Steve Jobs' work ethic inspires me.
Has a picture of Steve jobs
Builds a PC.
That's it. Henceforth, I'm naming my builds after Transformers
Hey I am building a similar build but blue themed same CPU or should I say CPUs same ram motherboard how is rendering with those xeons ? Great build!!! Poor shelf tho :( anyways great build +1
The rendering is amazing... I have a 3930k on my main workstation. Literally... what took 5 hours to render now takes 1.
Wow that's pretty damn fast I am upgrading from my LG's 771 zeon build!!! 4 core so this should be good!!!
Glad someone has money
Steve Jobs pic in the corner.... watching you.
I just started puking rainbows. Last time this happened it took an hours to stop. I guess your build is too boss for me.
w00t dual exeon finally someone made a dual cpu computer!!!!!!!!!
amazing justs absoulutly amazing best ive seen so far!!!!!!!!!!
Haha no problem man. It's very sturdy. I bought the brackets, wood, and drilled 12 x 10mm anchors into cement blocks.
Normally I wouldn't say anything about this, but just make sure you aren't insulting anyone when you comment.
No, the staff deleted your offensive comment about the Muslim God.
And I quote: "[comment deleted by staff]". How about you go in the corner and think about what you did wrong.
I'm outraged that this comment hasn't been deleted yet by the pc part picker staff.
LOL HAHAHA, That link made my day !!!!
Haha I actually watched the whole thing through even though I've seen it a billion times
You may get more thumbs up than the build.......... Well, maybe not. But appreciated.
W.hat T.he F.uck is this build !!? he should get (2x) 1070's for 824$ instead of a s.hitty 780ti for 790$
Do you understand when he build this pc? It was in 2015. Bruh no 1070s existed looool
oh oh ! ok i forgot lol
