Description

This build was made for a client who did not need it once built. Quite a cool looking build so thought I'd upload on here to share some of the ideas we implemented on it.

Using a thermaltake core v1 as a base all the panels were stripped, sanded through to fine grits then coated with a couple layers of PlatiKote enamel spray paint. Quite time consuming but the end result was worth it. A new thing for me was using 3d Carbon fiber vinyl. Nice material to work with and gives a great carbon fiber effect. Just make sure you have some patience and a heat gun/ blow dryer to get all the bubbles out! Added some red leds which glow out the top window. Two 80mm fans working in conjunction with the cpu cooler for excellent cooling.

A few thoughts after building - Thermaltake Core v1 is such a great case for these types of builds, easy to work with, and it is an amazing ITX case in it's own right. Take your time getting the carbon fiber to seat properly, then end result looks great if done properly.

Would love to hear your thoughts! Also this build is going on ebay if your interested!

Absolutely gorgeous build, immediate +1! Do you have any resources for modding with vinyl?

There are alot of youtube videos on how to do it, a few key points:

  • Vinyl can be applied pretty much on any surface so is really versatile
  • It can be applied as in this case to curved edges, you just have to apply a little heat and stretch round the vinyl, the heat will shrink the vinyl slightly helping it to mould over the curve.
  • Take bubbles out! The difference between a good looking vinyl job and a poor looking one can be a few noticeable bubles - I've seen some wraps on youtube of PC cases that look terrible with buubles all over the place - so even if you have to peel and start an area over, do it, take you time, vinyl is also fairly cheap so don't be afraid to mess up and start over if you have to.

The carbon fiber vinyl is my favorite part of the exterior. I can tell you spent a lot of time on this and it all looks just brilliant! Top work!
