Honestly I probably should have done this awhile ago, but our daughter turning 2 and starting to get into everything was the factor that tipped the scales. Wifey has really got used to having a PC as the media hub in the house; once she figured out how to use a VPN to stream shows from her home country, it was game over for her.
I was really happy with the Silverstone GD09B case; if the cable management wasn't pretty, it was at least suitable in terms of keeping airflow and less difficult to work inside than I'd anticipated.
The motherboard was really not what I needed, mostly because it only has two fan headers, one of those for the CPU. Thankfully I went with a modular PSU so daisy chaining a couple molex connectors with fan headers coming out of them was no big deal, except it was more cables to deal with. Again, very happy with the case.
I'm unable to spend much time gaming, as I'm (sadly) a responsible grown up with a couple kids and a business to run, but I still manage to squeeze in some DotA and will muddle through an RPG from time to time, hence the GPU and all the RAM, but I'm lucky if a get a couple hours in twice a week, so I don't exactly have to worry too much about overheating anything. I keep reading about how the stock coolers with AMD are very good anyways; I'm confident they'll be enough for my needs.
I kinda whiffed on all the photos when everything was in boxes, but this isn't much of a showpiece system anyways, although I do confess to liking how adult I feel with my discreet little HTP(owerhouse)C that easily passes for a stereo component.
I've only built one computer before this, the aforementioned big ugly tower, and looking at the many beautiful systems plastered all over this site, there's a part of me that feels embarrassed parking my Honda in this lot full of Ferraris, however, for all the other normal guys without tons of experience who might be checking out this site wondering if maybe they can use it to throw something together that's cool and useful for them, who knows? Maybe for those guys my little slice of the pie might provide some inspiration & insight.
Thanks again to everyone who contributes and provides friendly advice here; the help has been invaluable.
