Used mainly for personal internet, word processing, and streaming media. I'm not much of a gamer, but I wanted to learn how to build a PC. It ended up being a blast, I learned a lot, and the machine runs great!
Believe it or not, you could plop in a $120+ graphics card and you'd have yourself a rather respectable gaming PC anyways! Just in case you wanna splurge into that hehe
Yeah, it runs beautifully now! In the future I might try to upgrade the cpu cooler and add a graphics card for fun. I might have to take up gaming just to see her dance!
Unless you're going for aesthetics, upgrading your CPU cooler wouldn't be necessary since your CPU is locked. A good budget card I would recommend is a GTX 760 I have the i5-4460 paired with one and I can get a solid 60fps high (not max settings)and it's rather cheap, somewhere in the $125 range I believe
Looks great man! I'm wanting to take on my first build, but worried about taking it on. If I could come out with something like this I'd be happy haha
Very nice, but you could've gotten a cheaper motherboard that has as much power as a Z97. That's just me though. Overall, nice build!
Yeah, I probably could have. Being a complete newbie, I was going solely on reviews, specs and total price.
That's how you build a PC that suits your needs.
The stock cooler is fine since you have a locked i5 cpu. The only thing missing is a gpu. IF you're from AUS I would recommend ASUS R9 390 8GB for AUD $389 from mwave I know a lot of people are waiting for the RX 480 for the value, and yes it's better but don't expect it to be able to match the performance of the R9 390.
I stand corrected, IF the benchmarks are true then wait for RX 480 release date is June 29, the RX 480 beats the gtx 980 and is VR ready. At $199 which beats a gtx 980 what more can you ask, Value right there.
CPU coolers upside down, Just saying
Lol. Well, all that fancy hardware and still a stock CPU cooler. I likr the build. I'd love to see cable management and a new cooler for an upgrade.
Yeah I hear you. I'm hopefully going to upgrade with a cpu cooler and a graphics card sometime in the future.
Cable management- someone recommended I run the PSU cables behind the tray at the bottom and bring then out whee needed so I'll try that.
Thanks for the feedback!
Lol thanks for posting. It took me months till i upgraded from stock to after market lol.
An H110 mobo would have been more suited to this build and would have been cheaper...
By better suited do you mean for the computer's purpose? As in this one is overkill? Thanks for the feedback
A Z motherboard is meant for overclocking your CPU, but your CPU is not unlocked for overclocking, meaning it's pointless having a Z motherboard. An H motherboard would have had pretty much the same features as the Z, just without the overclocking ability. That's not to say that you can't do some minor overclocking with a locked CPU. I have a i5-3350P (locked processor with 3.1ghz stock with 3.3ghz turbo) currently and its trucking along at 3.7ghz, which is the max multiplier I can put on it because it is locked, But I was only able to do that with my Z motherboard.
Yeah, I'm building in this case right now. Just run all those PSU cables behind the tray at the bottom and bring them where they need to go. Here's a pic of mine to give you an example: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6vauuy9wk5i728v/IMG_20160604_130329.jpg?dl=0
I haven't put drives in it yet, but I think that you can put them facing the other way and keep the cables out of sight on that side as well.
Other than that, it's solid all around for what you need. If you tuck the cables away, it will have better airflow and collect less dust.
Hey, thanks! Originally, that's what i wanted to do, but i had some troubleshooting I had to do and when I put things back the cables didn't get managed as well. Thanks for the pic, that will be helpful for when i try to reroute those cables
Yeah, my last build was pathetic for cable management, I took it apart the other day to get a fan splitter cable out of it and was quite shocked by how pathetic my cable management was. I'm trying to be much more conscientious with this build. So far, so good.
Like you said, it's all about learning. That's why I gave you more helpful tips than the guy that just replied saying it was terrible. :)
Tech Source man, U aint got no chill. But ay' i still watch your youtube
I've just been watching your channel for HOURS! Can I have my day back plz?
