Well, this is my first ever build, and to be quite frank, I thought I would I would break everything in the system in one way or another. But when I pressed the power button and it booted up, the absolute joy I felt after 3 hours of assembly was all worth it.. And I used to game on an i3 laptop (which is running 5 years old now!) and a PS3. And after testing some games I drew my conclusion, the difference is night and day. And my initial build was going to have a i5-6500 and in a mini itx chassis, but I thought why the hell not just go and make this build look and function just as good. Basically every game I've tried on this computer runs it swimmingly. Streaming is most certainly possible. This build is now running a few years old and hasn't shown its age in the slightest.
And thanks to the PCPP community for helping me on my 2.5 year journey finding parts!
Perfect CPU, even though it's locked, it's still a brilliant CPU. It can stream games and juggle a few Chrome tabs as well. Couldn't choose any other CPU. (in my opinion.) (UPDATE: CPU is starting to show its age as it starts slowing down occasionally. Otherwise I would still recommend this CPU.)
As a first time installer of any cooler, it was quite annoying, spending over 1hr 30mins just to get the thing installed, but it keeps my CPU well within the mid 20s and only ever touches 45-50 degrees Celsius under a streaming load.
Simple enough motherboard to use. Has the features I need and nothing I don't. XMP profiling is also a bonus.
16GB is plentiful, never touch more than 10GB, but it is good to have nonetheless. As this RAM is XMP compatible, the RAM runs at 2400 with ease.
This SSD is very quick, and for the size and price, this SSD is really worth it. 525GB is more than plenty for any computer. I use this SSD for my OS and games, and it is very quick.
For the price, this HDD cannot be beaten. Pretty quick and does the job.
This card is absolutely insane. It just is. And moving up from PS3 and Intel HD Graphics, I can tell you now, this card is absolutely PERFECT. I would SERIOUSLY recommend this card to anyone. Never reaches above 55-60 Celsius. Overclocking on this card in particular is OK, I wouldn't trust the card around 2GHz core clock, although it is possible, it is very unstable.
Beautiful case. Very user-friendly (as a first-time builder I am very thankful for this), and it is very quiet..
This power supply is absolutely overkill, but I didn't want to have a small power supply humming away noisily, so this was a great option, and it's modular, keeping cable clutter down. It's very quiet as well, and can keep a stable 200Mhz overclock on my 1060.
Wireless Network Adapter
Pretty mediocre card, barely kept up with anything I did. I reverted back to Ethernet and keep this card plugged in as a backup. Would recommend if you have no other option.
Had this keyboard for ages, really good, holds up despite its age.
A really good wireless mouse, battery life is seriously impressive, as I end up going through a few days at a time without charging. RGB is really nice too.
Great set of cans, audio quality is great for the price, mic quality is decent. I have stopped using the microphone however.
