Built for myself. Finally ascending from old, crummy, borrowed laptop. Budget of £1,400 including all peripherals, software etc. Purpose: gaming, graphic design work, general Internet usage, looking good.


Probably the best bang-for-buck Ryzen. Currently on stock cooler with stock clock. Planned upgrade to NZXT Kraken X62 liquid cooler.


At the time cheapest 16GB set of DDR4-3200 without weird colours or heatsinks.


Nothing to see here, really. Typical solution.


Best AMD card available to date. Chosen it for FreeSync and to support AMD - we need more competition on the market! I didn't want to wait for Vega, I can just upgrade to it later down the line if it proves worthy.


Sexy glass side panel and great cable management, and no unnecessary drive bays. Easy choice. By default both fans are exhausts - I switched the top one to front intake instead. There isn't a whole lot to show off for now - only the motherboard and GPU have LEDs - but I plan to add an RGB liquid cooler and a Hue+ with AER RGB fans later.


Enough extra power to handle some upgrades later down the line. Fully modular for ease of building.


24" is a good size for my desk and the distance I use it at. Very good tilt/height/pivot range. 144Hz, 1ms and FreeSync for the price is a steal. Doesn't have the greatest colour out of the box, but that's easily fixed with correct OSD settings and applying colour profile. I will definitely add a second one later.

Great performance for the money! Overclocked to 3.8 without a hitch on stock cooler, running at 34.6 idle and 63.5 load!


Good overclocking features, plenty of high speed USB ports, good fan header location. LED is nice and bright with plenty of options.

Runs Corsair Vengeance LPX 2 x 8GB at 3200MHz without a problem.

Great choice if you don't need SLI.


Only had to apply XMP profile to get full speed. Works flawlessly with Ryzen 5.

Video Card

Drives a 1080p144 panel beautifully.

At least 60 fps across various games, generally in 80-90 range, and 100+ in less demanding ones. Overwatch never drops below 100 and averages 140.

72C load, 31C idle.


Extremely sexy. Super easy to build in. Managed cables without a single zip-tie!

Would give 6 stars if I could.

Power Supply

Good performance and fully modular, black, sleeved together cables.


144Hz, 1ms and Freesync is ridiculously good for the price.

It's a TN panel so colours are somewhat washy out of the box - I recommend going to review of this monitor and applying their OSD settings and colour profile.

The only feature I'd like to see is OSD crosshair but that's not a big deal.

Really nice build - Pretty much the same build I have planned later this year. I have a question though: How many intake and outtake fans do you have? Was it only the one intake fan and one outtake?

The case comes with 2x 120mm fans, one as rear exhaust, one as top exhaust. I removed the top one and placed it in the front as an intake.

In future the front will be a 280mm radiator as intake and other fans will just be exhausts.

Can you comment on any problems you faced or the process of getting your ram running at 3200, I would love to do a super similar build but have heard it can be a real pain with am4 mother boards right now.

Is it really? I don't think so... I mean, there's a lot here that can be done cheaper here but I made a point of not skimping out on details.

You could get a cheaper case if you don't care about looks and windows, cheaper nonmodular Bronze-rated PSU, slower RAM, motherboard without fancy-schmancy LEDs .

Amiborg, I did your build but replaced the 580 for a gtx 1060. I'm having an issue with the build though, everything works great, until I'm under heavy load. After about 30 minutes of gameplay my keyboard and mouse shut down then a second or two later my gpu shuts down, did you have any issue like this when you build yours?

Hi man,great build.I bought the same cpu,ram,motherboard,ssd and hdd and are great solutions :-) one question:my ram runs at 2133 with the latest update and would like to increase it.Is it safe?I mean did you have any issues when you increased the sleed?

It should be perfectly safe to just set the XMP profile in BIOS and the RAM should be working at its advertised clock and timings.

Worst thing that can happen is that the PC will not boot up - in that case just reset the BIOS and set the RAM frequency manually.

I've found that my PC was a bit unstable at 3200MHz (would crash sometimes) but 2933 works perfectly.

Just a quick question, how did you get the Motherboard to run the ram at 3200? I have the same ram speed and same motherboard with the memory running at 2133. Did you just do a bios update or did you set it to that speed manually?

You have to set the XMP profile in BIOS, or manually up the speed, yeah.
