My first build ever. Started in the summer of 2016 replacing an old 2002 build (!). I needed a much faster computer with lots of memory to be able to do 3D modeling/photogrammetry (blender/agisoft photoscan) while on a budget. My aim was to build a beige system that ( despite it's color) would look and feel fresh. My aim was not to achieve a "retro" look and hence I only used new or new old stock (NOS) parts. Build completed in 2018.
2016 -- Upgrading a 2002 build
CPU Amd FX8370 Prior to Ryzen, this was the best bang for the bucks finding a system equivalent to a "basic" photoscan setup.
Motherboard BIOSTAR TA970 I decided to go with this model since it support up to 64 GB ram.
Memory 2 x Crucial DDR3 16GB (32 GB in total) Went for these as they come in 1x16 (possible to go up to 64 GB RAM with 4 memory slots in motherboard).
Videocard, Sapphire Radeon RX 480. Newly released, this seemed to be the absolute best choice of value at the moment (june 2016).
2017 -- Buying new case, keyboard, mice and monitor for a more uniform look. Decided to stick for a strict beige look.
Case, Just PC JPC755 Bought from Ebay, New old stock, dates back to somewhere between 2003-2007
Keyboard (CHERRY G832620) Mouse (CHERRY MS5400)
New products from Cherry bought from german amazon (www.amazon.de)
Monitor No-name brand Very hard to find new monitor colored beige. In the meantime I decided to go with a cheap "no-name monitor" from www.alibaba.com. Spraypainted it beige.
Case fan NOCTUA 92 mm and 80 mm The case was equipped with space for two 80 mm fans. Bottom intake and rear exhaust. Went for an adapter in order to install an 92 fan as the exhaust and went for a filter for the intake in order to keep the dust away as much as possible.
2018 Upgrading memory and going with homeplug since moving to a new bigger apartment.
Ssd Crucial MX300 525 GB Since the old HDD suddenly stopped working I decided to upgrade to an SSD. Great improvement!
Homeplug D-Link DHP-601AV Moving to a larger apartment with computer and internet router far away from each other means that a new solution is needed. I went for a homeplug that gives same connection as a wire.
