Do you need to tell it to turn on the lights in a room before walking in? Also sounds like you need to install additional hardware, configure it link it via bluetooth or something. I would think the existing light switch can handle it.

Yes, additional hardware is part of it, but in her case it beats walking through a dark room to get to the switch.

Ah - yes, I was thinking only of a bedroom where the switch is by the door, but other rooms, and depending on which way you enter, could be and issue. I've seen motion sensitive light switches. Just making an argument against getting an Alexa or similar device.

I wouldn't have one, but it's the way she wants it. I don't know what all she uses it for, she's in Oregon and I'm in Kansas, but I know she's got lights and radio and stuff on voice command.
