4x4gb to 2x4gb downgrade?

For personal reasons I am considering downgrading from MicroATX to MiniITX. I'm on a rather tight budget. My current pc has 4x4 1333Mhz. The Asus Z97-I PLUS MoBo (and MiniITX's in general) only has 2 memory slots. The question is if I can halve the memory I currently have and use it for the new MoBo.

If you aren't doing heavy video rendering or heavy multi-tasking like having 200 google chrome browsers then 8gb of ram is enough for modern games

I know it is enough. What I mean is wether or not I can just dump 2 of the 4 memory units I have.

You can probably sell them away if it's still working or keep them

They are still working, but would they still work if only two remained or would I have to buy new ram altogether?
