Current system - 2 years old:

i5 4440

GA-H87-HD3 - 6 sata ports

8GB Kingston RAM

MSI GTX 970

Corsair RMi750

Fractal R4

beQuiet Shadow Rock 2 air cooler

120 Gb ssd, 250gb ssd, 5 hdds

3 nf a14 flx fans

I need to change the motherboard, it has issues. But seeing as z87/z97 boards are now discontinuing, I'm having a difficult time finding one with 8 sata ports for a decent price ~ £110. I've also decided to get a better cooler, noctua u14s, as the mounting on the bequiet is a nightmare and I will also get a fractal r5 as I like the slight improvements they made and will help me better manage the cables and drives I have.

My question is seeing as it is so difficult to find a z97 motherboard for a good price, might it just be easier to upgrade the core system - cpu, mobo and ram to skylake. Or is the outlay for that not worth it. I've seen an i5-6600k and Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 7 for £350 and ram for £40 - 8gb or £80 for 16gb.

Thoughts welcome, because I keep going round in circles.

Thanks.
