Computer getting second state of sleep

When I leave my computer idle to long, I get the normal going to sleep where the screen turns off and moving the mouse a little and it turns back on. But if I leave my computer on that for too long, it completely turns off and when I turn it back on its says my accounts locked and I have to log back on. This is my first computer build and I have never seen anything like this happen. Is this a common thing? or is this a problem with my computer? Thanks for any help in advance.

Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change Plan Settings -> Put the Computer to Sleep: Never (or whatever you wish it to be)

You can also change the monitor's sleep settings through this interface.

You can disable hiberfil.sys to prevent it from hibernating like that. It's the file where windows dumps a copy of memory, kind of like pagefile but only in the sense it works with main memory.
