Basically I'm looking for a backup solution and cloud server. I've looked at the Synology DS216+ and Synology DS115J and are evidently a lot cheaper and more power efficient. They suit my current needs and probably my needs for a while to come. However since I enjoy building PC's I'd prefer to build it myself. I know it provides an upgrade path, thus future proofing. But for the time being?

Here's the part list I drafted:

I recommend mirroring the two WD Red hard drives instead of striping them. This will provide greater data redundancy and thus lower risk of data loss. If you mirror the two drives, you will have 2 TB of storage. If you stripe the two drives, you will have 4 TB of storage. It's a tradeoff between capacity and reliability, with the latter being more important to me. If you ultimately can't build a NAS device yourself, you can resort to purchasing a WD My Cloud Duo, which has two WD Red drives, mirrored or striped.

Just a FYI you have the currency wrong, its pounds not USD which is why half the list is missing a price. Also you have a SSD from '08 in the part list. Also H170 boards support only up 2133Mhz speed, you would be wasting about a whole Ghz in speed.

Why that insanely overpriced CSM which is currently on the bottom of the totem pole for Corsair PSU's?

Actually, that's the same PSU as the one the OP selected. It's just that I didn't bother to change the PSU.
