Just got my ryzen 7 1700 in the mail today, does anyone know what paste they use on the cooler? I have arctic silver 5 but if it’s got something like kryonaut on it I won’t touch it

It's Cooler Masters OEM paste. Very good stuff until it dries out which shouldn't be for 4-6 years.

Cooler Master has been AMD's OEM for coolers forever.

Whenever I hear these sorts of questions, I always wonder. "So you trust the stock cooler, but think they put toothpaste in for thermal paste?" I really do think people agonize over this too much. Different thermal paste won't hurt, but you'd also never have an issue with the stock paste.

Not only that but the mounting setup on the Wraith Spire is terribly easy to get a bad mount and that alone will have more impact on temps then the 1-3c difference between high and low end thermal paste.

Should be better than the stock paste that AMD uses.

Kryonaut is a ceramic paste and perfectly safe...conductonaut is the paste you may wanna avoid as it's liquid metal, and should be avoided for aluminum heat-sinks. :)

I think he is referring to if the cooler already has Kyronaut already on it (as the preapplied stuff) then he will rather keep that on then bother replacing it :)

Not using conductonaut with an aluminium heat sink is still some very solid advice.

That's only a passive cooled aluminum heat-sink.

If you apply that on a expensive CPU die and do it the wrong way, it may even short circuit the processor.

And it can leave black residues on aluminum heat-sinks. :)

Liquid metal on CPU dies is perfectly fine and very little risk if you do it right.

Liquid metal with an aluminum heatsink will most likely eventually crack the heatsink from mounting pressure while the aluminum breaks apart.

I'm 100% sure, AMD's stock paste is not qualitative wise similar to the kryonaut paste.

It should be inferior.
