SSD recommendation as boot drive for old machine

MojaveHigh

I recently build a great new rig and I am looking to turn my old computer into a server (files, plex, security cam, etc.).

I'd like to get a small (250GB+-) SSD for the OS and basic apps and convert the existing HDD to a straight data drive.

I would like to stay inexpensive ($30) but am fine with spending a little more to ensure quality.

I'm currently looking at the Team L5 Lite 3D, but I want a drive with dram and I'm not sure if this has it. It's $28. I like the known quality of WD Blue 3D Nand, but it's $50.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

Well if it is a SATA interface and is an older PC any SSD will be a huge upgrade speed wise from an HDD. You would find it hard to tell apart a cached drive vs non cached drive that uses a SATA interface.

For a ~240-250GB SSD there are some good options but I would decide between a budget A400 non cached SSD for cheap or spend a bit more and get a crucial MX500 that has built on cache for a bit more. WD blue drive does seem a bit expensive for what you get.

Crucial - BX500 240 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive - $29 is another idea as well.
