$500 - 800 build (Editing and Gaming) [ITX]

A friend of mine is deciding to build a PC. She either can go with an i5-9400F or a Ryzen 7 2700 (or a Ryzen 5 3600). Looking into for long term before upgrades (around 5 yrs probably).

Applications that she would be using are Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Lightroom. She won't be editing anything more than 1080p or 1440p. With the games, she likes it to be mid-high settings with around 60fps+ at 1080p. The games she is playing are Rainbow Six Siege, GTA V and For Honor.

For case she wanted the NZXT H200.

Budget is just for the tower and probably a monitor if it can be squeezed into.

PS: I want to know about the PROs and CONs for the i5 and the ryzen 7? Other than the Core and Thread count

Thank you. You can use US stores, I'm based in Asia so I'll just find the parts parts from local stores here.

Again couldn't quite get it under that $800 mark.

The i5-9400F will be better for gaming and any applications which favour Intel, single core performance is superior to the 2700. Power draw will be lower because the 9400F is locked processor with its maximum frequency set. By contrast the Ryzen 7 2700 can theoretically overclock up to overclocked 2700X frequencies, in reality in can't because the stock cooler isn't as good, (Wraith Spire RGB with 2700, Wraith Prism RGB with the 2700X SKU), AMD also put the silicon most capable of higher frequencies in the X SKU processors.

This being said, the 2700's gaming performance when overclocked should be within 2 to 3% of the 9400F, whilst still offering considerably more productivity capabality, (https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-9400F-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-2700/4051vs3957), (https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/AMD-Ryzen-7-2700-vs-Intel-i5-9400F/3240vs3397).

The Ryzen 5 3600 exceeds both the 2700 & 9400F in most areas apart from resource intense activities where core & thread counts take priority e.g. streaming etc.. The 3600 is also overclockable to extract even more performance, however like with the 9400F, the Wraith Stealth stock cooler isn't great on the 3600, better than the Intel stock cooler, but still not great, the Wraith Spire RGB included with the 2700 is far better for overclocking.

Little less PSU and a few extra dollars nets you a 1660TI

Let's be real, a Ryzen 5 2600 will handle her editing at ease, since it's not too heavy by the sounds of it, while the upgraded gpu will serve her a even better gaming experience.

Here's a example of fps with similar build : https://www.letsbld.com/starter-pc
