Please help a clueless idiot!

Hi guys,

I'm currently looking at buying my first ever PC for gaming after my t.v broke, after I unfortunately fell out of love with my Xbox (shock) and recently become injured so no rugby for me on Saturdays for a while. However, I am beyond clueless on anything to do with PC's and despite my many attempts of 'getting up-to-scratch' - I just can't get my head around the specs, what they do, which are the best, who makes what and where they all go. I have lost patience with my lack of intelligence and found myself in forums (Hi!).

I play mainly shooting games such as; Fortnite, Call of Duty, R6 Siege and Overwatch and I play them competitively. I also play campaign games when I get frustrated with the shooters, such as; Assassins Creed and The Witcher 3. I could also use it for basic work documents (teacher), though it isn't a priority.

I love the RGB look and think it would look incredible in my man-cave. I need a keyboard, mouse and a monitor included within the purchase (because of the finance option). My budget is no more than £1,300.

I just really want the most efficient and cost effective build possible for the money I am willing to spend.

Any help given is incredibly appreciated and I couldn't thank you enough if you do help. Don't be afraid to be patronising (I probably deserve it) and if anymore information is needed for the build I want - please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you!

Thank you for your reply, I think this is what I’m going to go with but with the higher FPS! I can add an OS myself, which would you recommend? Just the windows 10? Thank you again.

You said you wanted to play these games competitively, so I delivered. The BenQ XL2411P is the 144hz version of the monitors used by ESL. The Fnatic keyboard is the keyboard of choice of many players on Fnatic, and the Glorious Model O is currently one of the lightest mice on the market with exceptional shape and beautiful RGB. If you did want to go with something slightly heavier and more "esportsy," the Zowie FK1 is a good choice at a similar price point. The PC itself isn't a slack either. It will be able to run all of the games you play at more than 100fps and will support ray tracing if you want that extra eye candy.

  • PSU is dated

  • Not sure whether that motherboard is going to support the 3600

  • Those 'gamer' type peripherals aren't necessarily better, it should be up to him to test those out

  • 0 points

Just because the PSU is dated doesn't mean it isn't reliable. It's 80+ bronze certified, and 520 watts is definitely enough for a 2060 and a 3600

According to ASUS's website, the motherboard DOES support Zen 2 WITHOUT a bios update

These "gamer" type peripherals have been tested by many, and many have agreed that they are some of the best. If he wants the best, this is what the community believes is the best.

Thanks for your builds. Thinking about getting a cheaper keyboard and mouse combo for now before I decide what feels right for me. If I removed the Keyboard and mouse from the budget, could this boost the PC build in anyway? Thanks
