Thermal paste & aftermarket cooler question for first time build

I understand that the i5 cpu comes with some thermal paste already on, right out of the box. My question is: will I need to remove this paste before installing the aftermarket cooler? Or can I just apply thermal paste on the i5, then install the aftermarket cooler?

Cpu: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor Aftermarket cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

Processors do not have TIM applied to them already, the stock coolers do. Just apply your new thermal paste and install the 212 Evo afterwards.
