I would NOT be buying a 4gb 770 under any circumstances. Either get a 280x or a 290. The problem with 4gb 770s is a) the pricing opens you up to getting a 290 which gives you more vram and b) the narrow bit bus at 256gb becomes a serious hamper vs the 384 bit bus on the280x and the 512 bit bus on the 290.

It is good if you want to SLI and run games at 1440p. I have one because I needed something that could SLI later on for 1440p, and I needed an NVidia card because I play a game (IL-2 ClOD/1946) that often chooses not to run well on AMD hardware. I agree that in most cases, a 280x is more practical though.
