AMD FX 8320 vs Intel i5 4670k

Hi all, I'm hoping to build my first computer at Christmas time, and I'm wondering which CPU is best for pure gaming. Many others are saying to go with the 8320 because it has '8 cores'. Others say Intel. I have never owned an AMD based system which makes me quite nervous to switch, as I don't know what to expect.

Thanks.

well some say to go amd for the 8 cores for future proofing but right now the haswell refresh is the best for gaming.

In this case, the 4670k has a slight advantage all around over the FX 8320. You can look up benchmarks for both processors where the 4670k comes out on top, save for some multi-threaded applications where they have very similar performance.

Either way, if you're waiting until Christmas to build your computer, it might be a good idea to wait a little longer for the Broadwell processors to come out. Intel has slated their desktop release for Q1 of 2015.

Will Broadwell run on the same socket as the 4670k?

It will, the same LGA 1150 socket. In fact, the current H97 and Z97 mobo chipsets are meant to support future Broadwell processors.
