CPU cooler- 125 C

Hi guys:

I built my PC couple weeks ago. I have a i7 5930K processor and im using a Corsair H100i cooler. I have connected it and it seems everything is working.

I installed Corsair Link and it states my intel core temp is 26.4C

Then I installed Speedfan and it states my CPU is 125C. Am I missing something? Isn't the cpu the same as the intel core i7-5930? also if it's running at 125 degrees Celsius, is that going to destroy the cpu? sorry about the newbie questions. im loving this computer build- im running GTA V on max settings with 4k. thanks in advance.

here is my build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8629Q7

I know, it's overkill but I plan to use it heavily for gaming/graphics design.

I hate to tell you this but you will want to replace that psu asap, its not good, I would return it if possible and get a Evga G2 750 watt psu. Its not a good psu, There are even threads about it being bad. You are pushing it probably past it limits.

So, 125C is REALLY BAD! That temp will kill the CPU.

The upside is that chances are, that's not the actual Temperature. Are you running the Corsair Link and Speedfan at the same time? They may be interfering with each other. And have you tried other programs, such as HWmonitor? (While the other programs aren't on).

The H100i isn't exactly a good cooler but it shouldn't allow the cpu to get to 125C, that should kill your cpu but I am doubting its that high, I would use a another program to monitor the temperatures. Also did you apply some thermal paste of your own?

thanks guys for the help.

Right now, the psu i have seems to be running fine. I may replace it down the line but with dual graphics card, I haven't had any problems.

For the H100i, I didn't apply extra paste. I just used the paste that was preapplied. I followed instructions and watched a couple youtube videos and followed every step.

I'll try to use HWmonitor and see if it;s just misreading for speedfan. I doubt it could be that high because I'm seeing that temp at startup and when im running idle too.

You are going to have problems soon, its most likely is going to make your system unstable, you are already pushing it past it limits with nothing overclocked, it might to not blow up or anything dangerous but it the result isn't going to be good. I would put your hand near the radiator and see how how it feels, you will be able to tell if its a 125C easily.

The radiator definitely is not feeling like it's outputting 125C heat. do you think the lower psu will make it unstable or is it the watercooler? thanks

Im running HW monitor. I checked and CPU cores are between 26-28C.

CPUTIN is at 127C.

Why is there such a discrepancy between CPUTIN and CPU core temps?

According to some info online, CPUTIN is the difference between the readings of the CPU Temperature from the CPU and the readings from the Motherboard. It's possible the Mobo CPU readings are malfunctioning. I heard a lot of issues from that board.

if my cpu core temps said 125 i will faint.

if you got the chance like vagabond said change the psu

I don't think it would even be working at 125c. Things you should check, go into the bios and make sure that the pump is running at 100% (disable any automatic control in fan header). Touch the hoses on the H100i (you should feel liquid moving.. if its working).

Download HWmonitor where you should see all 6 cores and the temperature for each one.

one last thing... as vitacomp pointed out there have been many issues with that motherboard, I would advise you to update to the latest bios 1.8

http://us.msi.com/support/mb/X99S-SLI-PLUS.html#down-bios

if you read each and every version, youll see how many issues have been resolved.. Update to the latest 1.8 BUT don't use MSI live update, use the utility inside the bios and download the update to usb drive.

Thanks everyone for the advice and help. I am going to download the new bios. Is it as simple as just loading it on usb drive and then running bios and using it from the usb drive?

For PSU- 1 kilowatt is what everyone recommends?

download latest version and copy to usb drive, then go into bios and from there update using their utility (M-flash)...

For PSU- 1 kilowatt is what everyone recommends?

for a build like this get a decent PSU, 750 wats recommended for 980 SLI

http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm

the G2 750 or the G2 850 which are both tier 1 (the best) and have a 10 year warranty

thanks for the help. I need to wait till I get the PSU. unfortunately the computer crashed and I can't turn it on now. I think it's the PSU problem.

It seems like problem while choosing motherboard and cooler.
