I've installed EVGA's Precision X OC and set a temperature target of 70C. I've set an FPS limit of 60fps and I have set the fan curve to aggressive. I will share results when I can
EDIT: changed fan curve to quiet. Aggressive was really unpleasant. Dropped down to 45 fps in DA:I but temperature is now staying at 71C. Will try strike a balance between noise cooling and performance sometime
650W should be plenty for an i5-6500, gtx 760, two ssds and three case fans? Thank you for throwing it out there though it is definitely on my mind as well. I'll keep an eye on it. I'll play with the fan curve and see if any of that helps. I have had it since Christmas 2014 so perhaps it is getting to the end of its days...
Even then, if it is temps it shouldn't be throttling. Yeah they're high temperature but if that's the cause of the card shutting itself down at only 81 and not 97 then hasn't the damage been done already.....? :(
Thing is I don't know how to get it any cooler. Even when I had my front intake fans blasting at max rpm's it would just sit happily at 81C. I have dusted out the card as well. All I can think of doing now is removing the manufacturer overclock?
Thing is, the fans turn off exactly when the screen goes black.
It goes to 81C and just stays there when gaming. According to what I've read the limit is 97C
Sorry :p seems like I was a little sensitive yesterday.
Wasn't my intention. I've deleted that picture since that's the consensus...
Not sure how to take that...
+1 for the build title. Not sure if we're great minds or fools?
I do like it. I'm just wary about being locked into a Celeron. I would swap out the dual sticks for a single 8GB. For expansion room. Though knowing the person, it will be more than good enough. Plus he would probably bin it and get something new before even considering to upgrade what hes got.
I got it as a birthday present back when I lived in the Netherlands. I shipped it over in a suitcase to the UK (see pictures)
I would however (now I'm a bit wiser) recommend the AOC G2460PG instead.
It's nearly half the price and still 24" 1080p, G-Sync, 144Hz. 1ms response.
I haven't checked, I'm not overly worried with the quality and care taken with the other components but I'll double check some time.
You've read my mind! Edit: 860K to be exact
Extender is a waste of time and money now I've bought the PCI WiFi card. And carpet is not a disease in this scenario. There is no intake at the bottom of the case whatsoever. The PSU is at the top of the case :)
And yeah she loves it and says I'm a snob for wanting to build her a better one when I have something spare from my minimum wage job :D
She couldn't care less about the cables, you can't see them. I'm the pedantic one and honestly it's the best you can do in that case.
Yeah I realised the 88R had a winDow which suddenly made this whole post redundant... tearing it down. Apologies
Absolutely flawless! Have been thinking of doing a similar build (i3 and RX 470) for my girlfriend in the future. Same case, no decals. Though that Riing fan look really neat! I may just nick that idea ;-)
Beyond just a part list what's your reasoning?
Yeah, that was the only drawback I could find to this board. But I'll be getting some splitters and I'm waiting for the Cryorig C7 to restock in store and then I should be set!
Why go to all of that effort to send it to the graveyard?
So I removed one of the top fans from my system, removed the fan hub and plugged in the two front fans into a mobo header each (sadly I don't have a y splitter at hand). Thus leaving the remaining top fan unplugged :-/
Result once everything was rerouted and turned on? Whisper quiet on idle. Haven't tested on load yet. Future plan is to snag a y splitter so that I can plug the top fan back in. Thanks for the advice!! The fridge in the kitchen is now louder than my pc!!
Edit: One slight disappointment is the LED's are a bit dimmer :(
Edit 2: Under gaming load the graphics card is warmer by 3 degrees (from 81 to 84), the motherboard is at a constant 50 (I do believe it was around the 40 mark before...) and the CPU has stayed unchanged at 51 under gaming load. Noise wise, it still gets loud when gaming but that's to be expected
Two 4 pin headers only. The fans are three pin however?
Edit: would this be any good? http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/akasa-5-pwm-fans-from-single-pwm-header-cable-a96nl
At this point in time, I'm not
4 two of the stock in the top and the 2 led in the front, all connected to the fan hub to the psu.
Those fans are 20 GBP a pop! O.O Any mATX case suggestions?
Impressive over clock! So tell me, two operating systems in one pc? How do you do that?
Shouldn't really necro this but I can't resist. This 1440x900 monitor only does VGA
Update!!! Reseated the GPU, replugged its power cord, and its up and running!!! :D
Yeppo, I did check that ;-)
That was my thought. I do not believe the monitor has any issues because as I said when no cables were connected it was contently showing me that coloured message. Also the screen wasn't off, there was backlight. I'll have a look inside the case in about an hour. I have a few other priorities first. Thank you for your help, both of you. I'll tell you the results within the hour _^
+1 for the build time and tidyness for a 2nd build. Thoroughly impressed
Awesome build. Absolutely adore the air 240 but what you've done with the LED and the Green liquid cooler is perfection! Cable management is astounding from the front. I notice you have the 8 pin in the corner. I struggled to route the 8 pin behind the 3.5" drive bay, even with a flat cable. Any tips? Or could I be so bold to ask for a few pictures of the back? :D
Absolutely awesome build! What is the fan noise like?
Considering the non-modular psu, small form factor and on top of that it being your first build, your cable management is awesome! I lot better than mine anyway. The ram however won't run at 2666Mhz but at 2133Mhz due to the B150 chipset limitation of the motherboard, do not worry too much about this as the performance difference is absolutely invisible to most people. My advice, is to see if you can enable XMP profile in your BIOS and see how high you can bump it. I have heard that some gaming B150 boards can still clock RAM. For myself it meant that the CAS Latency was running at the advertised 13 instead of the default 15 :)
+1, great mini-ITX build and awesome cable management!
Neat name for a neat build!
Thank you! This build will be going through a few small updates and upgrades over the next few months. Add some white psu extensions, white led strips, replace the grid with the grid+ v2, a new cpu cooler, remove the hdd bay and hdd's I'm not using too and above all, a good de-dusting. Once that's all out of the way, I think I will repost the refreshed pc :)
Yeah, pretty much. I messaged NZXT and they said the exact same thing. Thanks!
I really like what you have done with this build! And I love the tidiness of your desk. I'm wondering if you could tell what the length is of your desk? I'm downgrading to a smaller desk due to moving and I'm thinking of getting the same case.
Thanks for the reassurance. I should have trusted my instincts ;-)
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-gtx9502gd5oc with i3 6100. And no Hard drives will impair the airflow as I'm going to use an m.2 ssd. Heres the build: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2P7Hf7
Perhaps I will. No overclocking will be done as only an i3 will be installed. And from other reviews while considerably on the warmer side its not part-threateningly hot.
I'll give it a try. She'll probably want an upgrade to 16GB in the future anyway.
I thought about 1x8 but from sources I trust I have been advised to replace and not upgrade ram due to the risk of the dual channel not working. Or worse the 2nd stick not being recognised at all.
As for the cooler. I know the stock is fine. I have the stock on my i5-6500 and it works great! I just can't resist making it look good. And for £20 while staying within budget I think that's acceptable :-)
I was considering a 6600k just a bit unsure of the difference when I have no intention of overclocking. But the board was primarily for the white aesthetics, plus it's one hell of a board. I know the stock cooler works just fine, aesthetics again. The M.2 was vanity on my behalf. I've been dying to get an M.2, my pc doesn't support it which was my choice for all it was a conscious choice, I now regret.
Dam. I lived in hope!!
Is this an upgraded PS4?
As I said, decent pre-built. Not something you bought for a hundred quid :P
So what do I need to make it possible? :D
Thanks. The more I thought about it, the i3 was more tempting. For all I keep an open mind about AMD, I do prefer intel/nvidia.
